HALLOWE'EN will be here soon and Cheshire Police are launching ‘Op Treacle’ to remind people to act responsibly and stay safe whilst enjoying the night.

Every year, Cheshire Police has to deal with a high number of calls relating to anti-social behaviour as a result of people causing trouble during the Halloween and Bonfire period.

During Hallowe'en last year, 1,041 calls were received reporting an act of anti-social behaviour. Of these, 144 were alcohol-related and 210 came in via emergency 999 calls.

For the Bonfire period, there were 1,129 anti-social behaviour calls, of which 180 involved alcohol and 237 came in via 999 calls.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: "Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable whatever the time of year. However, the Hallowe'en period does historically produce an increase in the number of calls we take relating to anti-social behaviour.

"Therefore, our message is clear - parents be aware of what your children are up to on Halloween. Accompany children trick or treating rather than letting them go on their own to make sure they are safe and not being a nuisance to others."

To help people who do not want to deal with trick or treaters, Cheshire Police have produced flyers displaying on each side "yes" or "no" to trick or treaters. If someone has displayed "no" in their window, we are asking that they are not disturbed. The flyers will be distributed across the county but are also available online.
