A CHILDREN’S football club in Winsford have been given an early Christmas present after a Cheshire housing trust handed them £500 to buy winter clothing.

Woodford Junior Football Club were given the donation from Weaver Vale Housing Trust, which will go towards warm clothing to help protect the under 9s throughout the notoriously wet and cold winter period.

The estimated cost was more than the families could provide so they approached Weaver Vale Housing Trust to request help through the Trust’s Community Assistance Fund.

Carlene Elliott of Woodford JFC, said: “We would like to thank all at Weaver Vale for the £500 donation they gave to us at Woodford JFC.

“We have now purchased the winter coats, and the team are really feeling the benefit from them in these cold winter months. Once again, thank you all very, very much.

Leanne Huizer, tenant engagement co-ordinator for Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said: “We wish the team every success this season and going forward, and are delighted to be able to help possible football stars of the future.”
