A PROSTATE cancer drop-in session in Winsford has been hailed a success after treating 144 men.

A prostate cancer awareness group held the PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood testing session for early detection prostate cancer at Asda Winsford on Saturday, January 24.

The day saw a steady flow of test throughout the day, with many men aged 40 and above taking part while out shopping with their wives.

Gary Steele MBE, chairman of Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, said:"We enjoyed a very successful day at Asda and numbers were up on last year’s testing too

“All of the results will be posted out to everyone within seven to 10 days and everyone who took a test will receive a letter for their GP.

“This will be kept for future testing to provide information and all results are strictly confidential and will remain with our urologist.”

Mr Steele founded the group in 2000 and have now tested more than 5,000 men and confirmed 168 cancers.

Every hour more than one man dies of this type of cancer, and doctors do not always recommend patients for PSA testing.

The group asked for a small donation of £10 per test and raised £456 for the prostate cancer awareness group.
