A PETITION has been created by business owners calling on Cheshire West and Chester Council to alleviate parking issues on Winsford’s Old High Street.

The petition calls on CWAC to allocate more parking bays along the Old High Street and to write ‘keep clear’ markings on the roads to the premises with private car parks requiring access.

It also calls on the council to install designated disable parking spaces for local business users.

The petition warns that a serious accident is inevitable if these measures are not put in place.

The petition states: “The lack of parking for local business users has become a massive issue with people now parking on grass verges and on single yellow lines causing an obstruction to the views of vehicles driving up and down.

“Also the daily arrival of large delivery and waste wagons is causing a total block to traffic on the high street on a daily basis.”

“We feel it will not be long before there is a serious accident on the high street either as a vehicle user or pedestrian unless the council install extra parking bays in order to make traffic flow more freely and create open views for oncoming traffic.

“We as business owners and users all feel the same and feel this petition is the only course of action as previous letters and complaints seem to have gone overlooked.”

The deadline for signing the petition, which can be found on CWAC’s website under online petitions, is July 1, 2015.

While only nine people have signed the petition so far, it has been given the full support of Winsford Town Council.

The council pledged their support to the petition at a Winsford Town Council meeting on April, 20.

“The high street is vibrant,” said Cllr Stephen Burns, who has signed the petition.

“I believe every premise is now open and I think we should assist them as much as possible, certainly from the Cheshire West side, they should be backing this.”
