BEING the biggest band in the world is the ultimate goal for a group of Winsford men who are tipped for the top.

The Luka State, who already boast 1.2million views on their YouTube channel, will release their mini album 'The Price of Education' on June 8.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't want us to be the biggest band in the world," said frontman Conrad Ellis.

"I want it to take us as far as it can possibly go – it's been a dream of mine and the other lads since we were little.

"I'm out there to get that.

"I'm very focused – that's my goal and I'm going to get it."

The Luka State are Conrad Ellis, on lead vocals and guitar, Sam Bell, on bass, Lewis Pusey, on guitar, and Jake Barnabas, on drums.

They are managed by Jim de Whalley, a record label owner whose dad, Chas de Whalley, was the man who spotted U2.

"I first saw them on stage at the Cavern Club back in 2009," Jim said.

"They were really really young and were terrible but their energy was incredible and I was staring at them thinking 'this is stadium really'."

He added: "I have every intention for them to be around for the next 30 years.

"They could be the next U2, the next Coldplay."

Conrad, who went to Verdin High School, and Sam, who went to Woodford Lodge, first met at New Images youth club, in Winsford, when they were 12.

"We started a band from there and started playing music together - it's not the band we're in now but me and Sam never really stopped," Conrad said.

"We both went to different schools but we were into the same music and it went from there."

The band went through different incarnations before settling on its current line-up in 2012.

"It just fitted like a glove," said Conrad, whose influences are John Lennon, the Beatles and The Jam.

"We're all in our early 20s now and looking to make something of ourselves."

Since 2012 The Luka State have completed self-funded tours of the UK, Europe and North America.

They have also had UK radio airplay support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Kerrang! Radio.

Conrad said: "It's been really positive, things are really happening.

"We play our cards close to our chest but things are feeling good, better than ever.

"There's some exciting stuff on the horizon so watch this space."

He added: "We just want people getting behind us, let's start a movement.

"Get behind it, support it, listen to it and enjoy it."

THE Luka State are keen to support the youth club that helped them on their way.

Frontman Conrad Ellis and bass player Sam Bell met at New Images, in Winsford, when they were 12 and want to make sure its future is secure.

"That's our rehearsal space now," Conrad said.

"We rent a room for that reason because in the past the council has threatened to close it down unless it's making a bit of money.

"We grew up there, our families went there, even our parents used to go there in the 1970s.

"So us as a band rent a room there and that money goes towards keeping the youth club open for the kids.

"No-one realises how much the kids use it – they use it just as much as when I was 12.

"We are doing our bit."
