FAMILIY members from a long-standing car dealership in Winsford swapped their motors for pedals as they powered through the Manchester 100 bike ride in aid of the Christie Hospital.

With a choice of either a 100 mile or 100km route along the beautiful lanes of Cheshire, team Cliff Dickenson and Son helped to raise funds for one of Europe’s leading cancer centres.

Representing Team Cliff Dickenson and Son was Chris Winward, Matthew Winward, Sarah Winward, John Winward, Andrew Winward, Jonathan Winward and Greg Kotecha.

The 100 bike ride was the culmination of months of gruelling training for the team, who have been getting accustomed to the Cheshire terrain.

A spokesman for Cliff Dickenson and Son said: “It is such a privilege to be able to give back a little to this wonderful organisation that works tirelessly in their efforts to give medical expertise to the needy.

“The coordination of all the riders, including a very recent father, was an achievement in itself.

“Some family members live in London, Southampton and the north of England, and all had to put in the effort to be here for the day and ride the event.”

The event starting from Wythenshawe Park, Manchester, before the route took in Altrincham, Knutsford, Great Budworth, Northwich, Cuddington and Norley.

The cyclists then traversed on through Kelsall, onto Dudden and Tattenhall, through Beeston before stopping through Bunbury for lunch.

After the much-needed break the group travelled through Burland, Nantwich, Worleston, Wettenhall and Winsford – where the parched cyclists stopped off for a cheeky pint at The Old Star pub.

The final stretch saw them push on through Church Minshull, Middlewich, Lower Peover, Mobberly, Wilmslow and then back into Wythenshawe, completing the epic journey in six hours and 29 minutes.

Chris Winward, managing director of Cliff Dickenson and Son, said: "It has been a tremendous personal achievement to accomplish such a ride.

“I feel very proud of all my family team members who have been through this with me.”
