TALENTED pooches battled it out at a fiercely contested dog show in Winsford.

The Friends of Weaver Parkway held their annual dog show on September 27, on the weaver parkway.

The community group are comprised of volunteers who help the Countryside Rangers maintain and improve Weaver Parkway.

The event, which was opened by the dance group, Elite Dancers, was themed as a ‘fun dog day’.

Visitors took part in a dog showing, which was organised by the Willows vets of Winsford.

The fastest recall was sponsored by Swift electricals of Winsford and the ‘Best in Show’ was sponsored by Fords of Winsford.

Jim Greenwood, chairman of the The Friends of Weaver Parkway, said: “We set the day up to raise funds for the group to cover our insurance and to finance other projects, which hopefully will involve the local schools.

“The day is about fun and responsible dog ownership. Our ‘bin it’ challenge, where bags imitating dog muck are thrown in to bins, is designed to encourage folks to bag it and bin it.

“The day was a great success with an increase in the number of stall holders, all of which were local businesses, and we hope to build on this next year and make it a great day out for everyone.”
