CHESHIRE West and Chester Council are ‘considering the regeneration and redevelopment' of the Greedy Pig site in Winsford, a councillor has revealed.

Guardian sources confirmed there are a number of developers interested in the site, though no planning applications have yet been submitted.

The borough council is now working with Public Sector Plc (PSP), a government initiative that was established to offer local authorities funding in connection with their property portfolios.

Cllr Brian Clarke, cabinet member for economic development and infrastructure, said: “The council and its development partner Public Sector Plc (PSP) are considering the regeneration and redevelopment of the Greedy Pig site in Winsford.

“PSP is backed by two private investment funds that can bring significant financial resources to help the council with development projects.

“All enquiries regarding the site will be dealt with through the partnership.”

The Greedy Pig site was demolished in 2013 after falling into disrepair.

It became an eyesore along the otherwise scenic entrance to the town, next to the River Weaver and Bottom Flash.

Alan Warburton, Winsford Town Council clerk, said in 2013 that the demolition and appropriate landscaping of site is one of the specified ‘quick win’ measures on Winsford’s Neighbourhood Plan document – which outlines aspirations for how the town should develop over the next 15 years.

However, no suitable developments have yet to come to fruition.

A number of residents have taken to Facebook to share their views of the investment – or lack of it – in Winsford.

Ian Newman said: “Look at the investment Northwich has had. Winsford has and always will be forgotten about. Shopping centre full of charity shops, card shops and book makers.

"People who come to Winsford from neighbouring towns drive through it not stopping as there is a lack of things to do.

"Majority of people in Winsford go to Warrington, Liverpool or Manchester for up-to date fashion and food and entertainment.

“Come on CWAC, open your eyes or is it a case that you don't live there so you’re not bothered?”
