WINSFORD’s unsung heroes will be honoured once again at the mayor’s Oscars.

Cllr Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, mayor of Winsford, will be holding the annual evening at the Winsford Lifestyle Centre on Friday, April 22.

The awards are aimed at recognising the achievements of Winsford's community champions.

A spokesman for Winsford Town Council said: “Do you know someone who has made a big difference to the lives of others?

“Has a young person helped you, or achieved something really special?

“You can show that you are proud of someone you know by completing this nomination form and returning it to the Town Council by Monday, March 7.

“Nominations will be considered by an independent panel, headed by the mayor."

Winsford can nominate residents, charities, businesses, clubs and community groups for a number of categories.

The 12 award categories are: Sports Person or Sports Club of the Year, Young Person of the Year, Performer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Community Initiative of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Club or Organisation of the Year, Customer Service Award, Business of the Year, Improving Health Award, Care and Compassion Award and School project of the Year.

Cllr Gaskill-Jones has urged residents to nominate Winsford’s unsung heroes young and old.

"Being mayor has been a real eye opener for me,” she said.

“I have always thought Winsford was a great place to live but as mayor I been privileged to attend a number of engagement where I was able to see the positive impact Winsford-based charities, organisations, individuals and businesses have on our town.

“The mayor's Oscars is an opportunity for us to recognise their contribution and celebrate the excellent work going on in Winsford across a variety of sectors.

“I wholeheartedly encourage Guardian readers to nominate people or organisations they feel deserve recognition.”

Nomination forms can be picked up from various outlets across the town, including the Libraries, ASDA and the Lifestyle Centre. The closing date for nominations is March 7.
