GREEN-FINGERED gardeners have selected two charities to fundraise for in 2016.

Members of the Over Allotments Association have selected St Luke’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support as their chosen charities for this year.

The community group, which has more than 100 members of all ages, based at Over Allotments, Moss Bank, has pledged to raise funds for their chosen charities at their events.

Sarah Page, Cheshire West Senior Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support said: “We are 99 per cent funded by donations from the public so without the support of people in the local community we simply could not provide our vital cancer support services.”

The gardening group have three public events planned for this year, starting with their annual plant sale in Winsford Shopping Centre on Saturday, May 21.”

John Malam, chair of Over Allotments Association, said: “It was one of our members who first suggested we donate to a local charity, which we’ve now been doing since 2012.

“We’ve raised almost £1500 for St Luke’s since then, and it’s great to continue supporting them, alongside Macmillan for the first time.”

Amy Magee, campaign and donor development manager at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “Allotments have a strong community focus and gardening does wonders for the body and mind, so it is very fitting that Over Allotments Association has chosen to support St Luke’s whose focus has and will always be on caring for our local community.”
