OVER Allotments Association’s annual plant sale brought the crowds into Winsford Cross Shopping Centre on Saturday.

The annual plant sale boasted more than 1,000 plants on show.

John Malam, chair of the Over Allotments Association, said: “Our members excelled themselves with the quantity and quality of plants grown this year.

“We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the people of Winsford who supported the sale, and who’ve now got some lovely plants to grow at home.”

Large crowds of people gathered at the shopping centre for the plant sale and was not just Winsford residents who stocked up with plants.

"One visitor, from Hemel Hempstead, delayed visiting his mother in Winsford by a week, so he could buy plants to take to her.

“We were told time and again how good it was for Winsford and the community."

Cllr Steve Smith, the newly-appointed Winsford town mayor, attended the plant sale making his first appearance in his second stint as mayor.

Cllr Smith, who until recently had a plot at Over Allotments, said: “This was my first mayoral engagement in Winsford this year, and no better place to start than a plant sale by a group of people who are passionate, not just about growing fresh produce, but about community spirit and bringing people together.

"I’d like to encourage residents of Winsford to get themselves involved with the town’s allotments and put their names down for a plot.”
