TWO determined children have completed the biggest challenge of their young lives – and raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Twelve-year-old Callum Bayman and his sister Ellie, aged eight, climbed Shining Tor – Cheshire’s highest peak – in honour of their dad Lee Bayman, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer last September.

Lee was treated at the Christie Hospital and is now on the road to recovery but his children wanted to do something for the famous cancer charity based in Manchester.

Callum, who is in Year 7 at The University of Chester Academy in Northwich, and Wharton Primary School Year 3 pupil Ellie hiked through rain, hail and snow with their dad and mum Jessica and, thanks to generous friends, family, school friends and work colleagues, collected a whopping £1,015 for the Christie Hospital.

Jessica, of Knotty Avenue in Winsford, said: “We faced all kinds of weather on the walk and we were met by a blizzard at the top.

“We took a few photos at the peak and quickly made our way back down.
“The children have never done anything like this before but they wanted to do something for their dad.

“They originally wanted to climb Mount Snowdon but we suggested Shining Tor for their first big hike.”

The family completed the 3.75-mile route round Shining Tor together in around five hours.
