WILLOW Wood Primary School in Winsford celebrated its 50th birthday last week with a visit from former pupils, comedian John Bishop and town mayor Steve Smith, who was also celebrating his 50th birthday.

Throughout the week, the school celebrated the ‘Golden Years of Willow Wood’ and received a visit from two popular former pupils.

John Bishop, 50, who went to the school in the 1970s, turned up to celebrate with current pupils, and his classmate Winsford town mayor, Cllr Steve Smith, who was also celebrating his 50th birthday.

Cllr Smith, said: “It was very special to me to celebrate my 50th birthday by going back to my old school and celebrate their 50th birthday with them too.

“When you think of ways you can spend such a landmark birthday like that, going back to your primary school has got to rank as number one. I felt honoured to do it, it was really special.

The school was treated to hundreds of former pupils visiting throughout the week and head teacher, Susan Tomlinson, says she will never forget it.

Susan Tomlinson, head teacher, said: “What an amazing week we shared to celebrate 50 golden years of Willow Wood.

“Thank you to all those who contributed to organising the events and to the hundreds of visitors who poured through the doors to share the excitement. It is a week of headship that I will certainly remember and it was lovely to share the memories of former 'Willow Wooders'.

“Some things have changed but time and again we heard about the happy memories people have of our school and what a great and lasting impact attending Willow Wood has had on their lives.”
