TESCO Express in Delamere Street has had a defibrillator installed following a community fundraising drive.

Staff and customers partook in months of fundraising activities, after an initiative was kicked off by Tesco Express Middlewich worker Linda Boden.

Linda’s son Andrew Cliffe died in 2006, aged 27, of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

Since then, she has helped acquire more than 20 defibrillators in Middlewich and last year began a campaign for 37 Tesco Express stores across the region to install the devices.

Winsford store manager Charles Istead said: “I think it’s a great attribute to have in Winsford – it’s not Tesco’s it’s the community’s.

“A lot of the community in Winsford put their pennies in the pot to help raise the money.

“The defibrillator talks you through the process so anyone in the community can use it. I just want people to know that it’s here and that anyone can use it.”

The life-saving device has been mounted to the side of the checkout, available for anyone to use at any time it may be required.

Linda said: “I’m extremely grateful to Tesco and the store managers in the north west for helping me to pursue my aspirations to fundraise for such a worthy cause which is close to my heart.”

A defibrillator works to regulate the heart rhythm if a person goes into cardiac arrest. It monitors the patient, shocking them accordingly to bring the heart beat under control.
