POLICE say they have noticed an increase in shoplifting around Northwich and Winsford in recent weeks.

Officers are warning shop owners in the area to be on guard after the recent rise in offences.

Insp Dave Snasdell said: “We have been visiting retail premises to give the reassurance and crime prevention advice but would like to make the community aware that if they see anyone acting suspicious in stores please inform the store so they can prevent the offence happening or contact the police.

“I would remind the community that often property is stolen to feed drug addiction don’t buy stolen property whether its coffee, razor blades or meat which are common items that are stolen to sell on.

“You are assisting the drug user to continue their drug habit and you are also committing an offence of handling stolen goods. If we identify you it could be that you are arrested for this offence.”
