A TEAM which collects lifesaving blood donations across Cheshire are taking part in a 5K run for two colleagues, one from Barnton, who are suffering from cancer.

Around 20 members of the Northwich-based National Blood Service team will take part in the Race for Life at Arley Hall, near Warrington to raise funds for cancer research.

Their colleagues Lynne Hamilton, from Barnton and Pauline Daniels are currently receiving treatment.

Lynne worked for the National Blood Service for more than 10 years before being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Following surgery she is mid-way through a course of chemotherapy.

She said: "The team are such a good bunch, they really keep Pauline and I going.

"As well as running the race we get a text from the girls most days, or one of them pops round.

"We're definitely going to be there at the end of the run to cheer them over the finish line."

Donor carers Lil Shinkfield, Sharon Morrison and Debbie Shaw are organising the team participation in the event and have also been arranging training walks on their days off.

Debbie said: "It wasn't difficult at all to persuade people to do this.

"We just want to give Lynne and Pauline a boost and show how proud we are of the courageous and determined way they are dealing with their operations and treatment."
