PROBLEMS of litter in Barnton were discussed at a meeting of representatives of the parish council and Streetscene from Vale Royal Borough Council.

Reporting on the meeting to the full parish council, Clr Helen Kirsopp said questions had been asked as to whether the lengthsman's shifts could be increased.

They were told there is a possible chance of an extra person being available to help with street cleansing as someone is going to be employed on work experience.

Clr Kirsopp said when the new unitary council comes into force responsibility for street cleansing will pass to the parish council which may be able to employ somebody cheaper.

Any problems can be reported via the borough council's website at valeroyal.gov.uk.

Anything reported before noon will be responded to the same day.

If it is before 4pm then the problem will be sorted the next day.

Clr Kirsopp said it was important for residents to get their voices heard if there were problems.

She said: "The more complaints received the more priority the area will be given.

"It is the public's duty to badger Streetscene to get things done."

She added: "Streetscene has said it will speak to all businesses in Barnton regarding their litter.

"If nothing is done then these businesses will receive warning letters and subsequently enforcement notices."
