Congleton 3 Winsford United 0

WINSFORD United failed to complete a North West Counties League Premier Division double over Cheshire rivals Congleton when they were beaten at Booth Street on Saturday.

An Andrew Langford penalty in the first half was added to by efforts from Matthew Worrall and Michael Koral as the hosts eased to victory.

Blues’ new boy Osebi Abadaki made an early break but shot into the side netting.

At the other end Koral broke clear but also fired wide.

On 19 minutes, a long clearance from Lewis Fielding found Harry Noon on the right, but his first time cross narrowly evaded Abadaki with only a touch needed to turn it in.

Six minutes later the Blues fell behind when Davison Banda pushed Simon Thompson in the area and Langford stepped up to convert the resulting penalty kick.

A Phil Drummond in-swinging corner was the nearest the visitors came to scoring, James Rothwell’s resulting header being saved on the line by Martin Pearson.

Blues found themselves two down after the break as a Congleton corner found the unmarked Worrall and his effort squirmed through a packed penalty area to beat the unsighted Fielding.

Koral added a Congleton third in the 90th minute, finishing from a quick free kick.
