Alsager Town 1 Winsford United 1

WINSFORD United’s run of back-to-back league victories was halted by a late leveller on Saturday.

Rob Byrne’s side were looking to make it three league wins on the bounce, and looked on course to do so after Danny Egan’s opener.

Blues had taken 75 minutes to break the deadlock at Woodland Court, but were unable to hold onto their lead when David Harry equalised in the last minute.

Alsager created the game’s first chance, when leading scorer Michael Blundell collected a long ball before forcing Winsford goalkeeper Andy Jones to tip his shot wide.

Shortly afterwards, Crewe Alexandra-bound teenager Ryan Wintle saw his effort collected by Blues’ custodian.

Sam Marshall posed a threat for Winsford on the left, crossing on one occasion for Kyle Riley only for the forward to head high.

Further efforts from Wintle and Blundell followed for Alsager, while Egan was unlucky to see a 40-yard lob clear the crossbar.

Winsford found themselves with a numerical advantage shortly after the break when Alsager’s Jordan Elcock was shown a second yellow card.

It did little to help Blues take control though, with the Bullets next to go close when skipper Peter Heler fluffed an open goal.

With 15 minutes left, the visitors edged ahead when Eli Mitchell controlled a long ball into the corner before teeing up Egan for a simple finish at the far post.

Harry had an effort ruled out for offside with time running out, but Blues did not heed the warning and let the same man slip free to restore parity seconds later.

It leaves them 14th in the table.
