Winsford United 0 Squires Gate 0

WINSFORD United’s unbeaten league run now stretches to eight games after they held Squires Gate to a goalless draw on Saturday.

Rob Byrne’s side drop to eighth in the North West Counties League Premier Division as result.

With two minutes on the clock, Winsford won a corner on the right and Eli Mitchell’s delivery was headed goalwards by Liam Baker but Ben Fletcher was well positioned to save.

At the other end an in-swinging corner found Chris Anderson at the far post but his first time strike went high and wide.

There was a chance for Kyle Riley when a fluffed kick by Fletcher went straight to the striker, but his first time effort was wide of the target.

Mitchell then shot inches over the bar and headers from James Rothwell and Baker suffered a similar fate, with all attempts coming from corners.

Conor O’Keefe was for the most part a spectator at the other end with the visitors’ attacks being snuffed out by Blues’ back four.

He was called into action in the second half, however, saving from Mark Buchan’s free kick and again from Billy McKenna.

On 65 minutes the Winsford’s man-of-the-match Danny Egan pulled off a fine saving tackle when a goal looked certain.

As full time drew near Lee Wilshaw’s free kick was headed down in the box by Gavin Ellison but Jon Jones’ snap shot flew wide of the target.

Winsford visit Silsden this Saturday before hosting promotion hopefuls Glossop North End next Tuesday.

Blues: O’Keefe, Seol (McQuillan 60), Wilshaw, Eiselt, J Jones, Ellison, Mitchell, Baker, Riley, Egan, Rothwell. Subs not used: Moran, Wareing.
