WINSFORD Flash Sailing Club celebrated 80 years on the Bottom Flash during an awards ceremony on Saturday.

It saw a number of prizes handed out to the club’s young sailors.

The Beginners’ Cup went to Richard Hough and the Optimist Trophy, for the most consistent effort by a junior through the season, was awarded to Jess Goodwin.

The club’s most prestigious event, and the races that decide the Club Champion of Champions, went to Paul Lennie and Pam Gott.

The club also handed Royal Yachting Association Level 1 and Level 2 awards to younger local members who had progressed through their training to meet national dinghy sailing standards.

Craig Duggan, Daniel, Bethany and Jessica Goodwin, Holly Brown and Hazel Miller collected awards.

“These are the future Winsford sailors who will ensure that this remarkable sport continues to thrive in this superb location,” said club press officer Nigel Hughes.

Saturday’s awards included trophies for class winners, who sail a wide variety of boats.

The Albacore Class included Paul Lennie and Pam Gott, Craig and Amanda Hamilton, Henning and Judy Caesar, Nigel and Hazel Miller.

The Comet Class, Roy Symmers, David Harrison, Brian Herring, Ros Stephenson, Fiona Niddrie and Andy Cush. Enterprise Class, Bill Glover and Linda Shaw, Malcolm Friar, Daniel, Beth and Jessica Goodwin, Peter Gorst.

GP14, Mandy Mitchell and John Close, Dave Burrows and Kate Billinge and Tim and Megan Bird.

In Laser Class, Jonathan Latham, Rosemary Benson, Sandy Mill, Steve Whitby and Ian Clarke, and RS 200 included Steve and Jane Vandersteen and Dominic Oakeshott and Mike Haynes.
