ATHLETES from a Winsford school won multiple medals at the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships in Coventry.

Tamsin Ellison led the way for Oaklands School, striking gold twice against some of the finest disabled athletes in the UK.

She won gold in the under 14s 100m and 200m, while Adam Chesters took gold in the under 16s discus as well as silver in the shot put and bronze in the 400m.

There were further medals for Byron Gillian, who won bronze in the under 14s shot put, and Charlotte Andrews, who took bronze in the long jump.

All athletes were competing in the T20 classification events and were part of the North West team.

Oaklands' Phil Poole said: “This team only came together at Christmas so this is an unbelievable return and we are all really looking forward to next year when we have a long run in to the championships. I am proud of how they all performed.

"The impact events like this can have on an individual is huge. It helps with their confidence, makes them feel good about themselves and helps unleash their talent."
