Winsford United 1 AFC Blackpool 1

A GOAL late in added time on Saturday kept alive Winsford United’s FA Cup campaign.

The contest had entered a fourth minute past 90 when Sam Cook cancelled out Paul Carroll's opener for the visitors, setting up a replay for last night, Tuesday.

Ossett Town, from the Northern Premier League's First Division North, await the victors.

Blues felt they should have had an early penalty when Ben Seol’s cross was blocked by the outstretched arm of Stephen Betteridge, but referee James Madine saw the contact as unavoidable.

Blackpool took the lead after a quarter of an hour when Winsford's defence failed to clear, Carroll pouncing to drive the ball into the bottom corner.

Rob Byrne's men had an opportunity to equalise shortly after the interval, but Chris Lunn’s free kick was too close goalkeeper Adam Caunce.

The introduction of Zach Ashford gave Blues added impetus.

Cook spectacular volley on 76 minutes was heading for the top corner before it was diverted by Caunce's fingertips.

At the other end, they breathed a sigh of relief when goalkeeper Ben Proctor denied Daniel Green at close range.

Supporters at Barton Stadium could be forgiven for feeling the tie was slipping away when Liam Baker rose highest at a corner only to see his header smash against the crossbar.

However Cook rescued the hosts following a desperate scramble, firing with power into the net.

Blues: Proctor (GK), Baker, Duckworth, Rothwell, Jon Jones, Jennings, Seol (Ellison 46), Lunn (Ashford 57), Riley, Cook, Nicholls. Subs not used: Wareing, Webber, Eiselt. Attendance: 134.
