AFTER conceding 15 goals in their last two outings, Winsford United recorded a first win under new boss Lee Duckworth on Monday night.

Goals early in each half from Scott Taylor and Danny Hudson secured maximum points for Blues in the North West Counties League Premier Division fixture despite playing almost an hour with 10 men.

Top-six side AFC Liverpool hit back through Paul Speed before Danny Egan was sent off, but the visitors could not conjure a leveller.

It came as a welcome boost to Duckworth, who was on the field for a 5-0 hammering at Maine Road on Saturday.

He watched from afar during last Tuesday's 10-1 mauling at Chester in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup.

It took the hosts only a minute to open the scoring on Monday, Taylor collecting a pass from Egan before cutting inside and swerving a 25-yard shot inside the right-hand post.

Their lead was short lived though, and Liverpool hit back on 14 minutes when Winsford failed to clear - Speed pouncing to score in a crowded penalty area.

And Duckworth must have feared the worst on 33 minutes Egan was sent off as punishment for a tackle on Jordan Thomas.

The player-manager's bid for a quick response narrowly failed when his free kick was tipped over by goalkeeper Ryan Jones at full stretch.

Meanwhile defender Ben Seol was on hand with a saving tackle to stop the visitors going in front.

Winsford needed only four minutes to re-establish a lead after the interval when Ryan Hibbert broke down the right and found Hudson.

The winger then crashed home from a narrow angle.

Substitute Sam Cook went close to extending Blues’ lead on several occasions, but found Liverpool stopper Jones in top form.

Blues are due at Squires Gate this Saturday, then Ashton Athletic next Tuesday.
