CHESHIRE improved their position in the British Inter-County Championship’s top flight after recording a third successive home win last weekend.

A 21-15 success against Cornwall leaves them seventh in the Premier Division, eight points adrift of the table’s top half.

There were victories for both men’s teams at Rudheath Social Club, in Northwich, while the women’s A side shared the spoils with their counterparts.

Only the women’s B affair ended in a defeat.

Winsford’s Dave Bird, who plays for Cosey Club in the Cheshire Super League, was a 4-2 victor against Jez Campe for the men’s A team.

His success, achieved with a single-dart average of 28.67, included a fine 161 checkout.

Tony O’Shea scored the hosts’ best average, with 31.08, to see off Gareth Griffiths 4-3.

Matt Hunt, from Weaverham, went down 4-0 against Steve Pascoe for the men’s B side, who won 8-4 on aggregate.

Andrea Hunt and Jane Stubbs, from Winsford and Northwich respectively, both suffered 3-1 reverses in the women’s A line-up.

However Ros Davies and Emma Pearce, teammates for Rudheath in the Cheshire Ladies’ Super League, recorded wins by the same score.

Bev Martin’s single-dart average of 17.04 made hers the pick of performances for Cheshire’s B team – a 3-2 win against Tracy Hancock.

Heidi Williams, who like Martin hails from Winsford, beat Belinda Hall (3-1).

Cheshire return to action next month with a testing trip to leaders Yorkshire.
