A VENUE in Northwich will play host to the county’s best darts players this weekend.

Cheshire welcome Cambridgeshire to Rudheath Social Club, on Middlewich Road, for the final fixture of the British Inter-County Championship season.

The home team start the contest only seven points above the Premier Division’s relegation zone.

However they can feel confident after winning each of their previous three home games this term.

Cheshire also avoided defeat on the road earlier this month, sharing the spoils with Lincolnshire after a 19-19 draw.

Winsford-based Dave Bird has been selected for the men’s A team, while Northwich duo Matt Hunt and Stuart Kellett are in the men’s B side.

Jane Stubbs, from Northwich, and Winsford’s Bev Martin, who both play for Rudheath in the Cheshire Ladies’ Super League, are in the women’s A team.

They are joined by clubmates Ros Davies and Emma Pearce.

Winsford throwers Andrea Hunt and Heidi Williams are part of the six-strong women’s B line-up.

Cambridgeshire, who are one place above Cheshire in the latest standings, have won three of their four away matches so far this term.

They could include England internationals Martin Adams, currently ranked number two in the British Darts Organisation (BDO), and Dennis Harbour in their squad.

Play starts at 11am on Saturday, when the B teams meet, and Sunday.

Admission is £4 for spectators, which permits entry on both days.
