THE Dingle Centre Art Group, the longest running art class in Winsford, has had to cease meeting as the centre is now closed on Monday afternoons.
The group was founded by the late Arthur Astles in the mid-70s and I took over tutoring the group in 1976 and continued until prevented by illness in 2013, but during this time the members continued to meet and help each other and I returned occasionally in 2015.
The group met every Monday afternoon, barring Bank Holidays, for over 40 years. We had regular exhibitions in the library and for many years competitions were held, judged by professional artists, notably Mr Haydn Jones of Nantwich.
At first these were sponsored by local businesses and prizes awarded, but later certificates of merit would be presented instead.
Although only a few members remain, it is sad that this longrunning art activity has had to close.
